Position Title: Legal Counsel / Document Review Team
Qualification: LLB
Location: Mumbai
Job Description
The position works on assignments received from American law firms and corporate clients primarily in the area of litigation document reviews. There will periodically also be substantive legal research of American law and appropriate writings required concerning the same. The position will analyze documents and determine their relevance as well as mark them for other purposes including possible privilege issues. The position needs to be able to understand American written communication and instructions as to how to categorize materials and utilize litigation software for which training will be made available.
Responsibilities
The position is essentially a support position for large US law firms and corporations to assist them in the litigation process. Large volumes of written material will need to be read, understood and categorized in relatively short periods of time. The work is both intense and challenging. The position needs to perform these tasks efficiently, professionally and in a team environment.
The position is part of a team which will become the talent pool from which people will be selected for client specific dedicated legal teams. Experience and Qualifications:
Education
BA degree from a quality accredited college finishing in the top half of the class: and LLB degree from any of the following: a US law school, or a top 25 Law College in India finishing in the top half of the class, or a UGC Law College in India not in the top 25 finishing in the top quarter of the class. LLM degree is a plus.
Experience
We are seeking people with different levels of experience. Some positions require little or no job experience. For the positions for which experience is required the following experiences would be helpful: 1 year experience working on document reviews for an LPO, or 2 years experience doing legal coding for an LPO, or 3 years experience working in a law firm doing commercial litigation.
Skills / knowledge
The following are required: Speaks and writes grammatically correct US-English; High Quality legal research, analysis and writing skills; Can competently prepare a Legal Memorandum; Has experience using Westlaw and/or Lexis-Nexis for legal research; Computer literate and technology savvy; and Ability to work under pressure of tight deadlines. It would be a plus if the candidate had significant expertise in a substantive area of law.
Personal traits
Has the ability and drive to be a success. Able to leap tall buildings, overcome all obstacles and maintain a sense of humor.
